Chamonix Municipal Archives

Feasibility Study – Rehabilitation of the former ATMB building (Chamonix branch)

The project involves the rehabilitation of the former ATMB building, located at 399 Helbronner Street in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
(at the roundabout near the waste disposal site), with a view to its transformation into municipal archive premises.

The ground floor, with an area of approximately 300 m², would be dedicated to archives. It would be fitted with
Compactus-type mobile shelving, and would include:

  • a one-off on-site consultation area,
  • offices for two agents,
  • a technical room,
  • a garage intended for sorting, processing, and managing document flows.

The existing accommodations on levels R+1 and R+2 would undergo a complete renovation, including a
new layout and a reconfiguration of spaces, to allow for:

  • the housing of municipal staff,
  • and, where applicable, the creation of subsidized housing.

The attic would be converted into storage and tidying spaces for the accommodations.

The project is led by the municipality of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, with the objective of voting on a
budget dedicated to the acquisition of the building and its renovation.

Functional Objectives

  • Storage and management of municipal archives (paper and, where applicable, electronic).
  • Guarantee of optimal conservation conditions in the long term.
  • Secure access for authorized agents and users.
  • Staff housing for civil servants.
